The family of Larry Eugene Jackson, Junior, who was shot and killed last week by an Austin police officer, has hired an attorney.
Jackson was shot after police say he ran from a bank and then later struggled with a detective under the Shoal Creek Bridge.
"Detective Kleinert goes outside to speak to Mr. Jackson and after 2-3 minutes Mr. Jackson flees on foot. Det. Kleinert pursues Jackson on foot. At one point during the pursuit he employs the use of a motorist, to get Mr. Jackson. Regardless of the reason of the foot pursuit Det. Kleinert ends up in a struggle with Jackson under the Shoal Creek Bridge. During that struggle, Det. Kleinert's weapon discharges on time fatally striking Mr. Jackson in the back of the neck. Part of the investigation will determine if his weapon discharged intentionally or accidentally," APD Assistant Chief Manley said.
Adam Loewy will be working with the family, and joined FOX 7 to talk about the case.
