New water restrictions are going into place around Austin. The cities of San Marcos and Cedar Park are the latest to announce Stage 3 restrictions.
The low water level in the Edwards Aquifer has not only reduced the amount of water flowing into the San Marcos River, it is also requiring city managers to lower pumping rates into the water treatment system by 35 percent.
Stage 3 restrictions in San Macros include limiting the use of water sprinklers to once a day every other week.
"I don't think we are quit at the panic situation, yet, but it is definitely very serious, we've only been in Stage 3 once before, that was last year in August and September," said Jan Klein Conservation Coordinator for the City of San Marcos.
The city of Cedar Park is also activating stage 3 rules. Four different watering zones are now in place. Residents were mailed cards informing them about different schedules to water. If you didn't get one, the water management plan can be found on the city web site.
