GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Glendale police are trying to track down the driver of a car who took off after hitting a 12-year-old, who was riding his bike.

The boy is recovering at Phoenix Children's Hospital. The 12-year-old was flown there Tuesday night.

Police say he's in serious but non-life threatening condition. While the boy's family is focused on his recovery, they're concerned the driver who did this is still out there.

"He's not on a breathing tube anymore, they did take that out late last night," says the victim's aunt, Edith Medina.

12-year-old Danny Frampton, an honor student, was getting ready to start 7th grade. But now, he's in the hospital, recovering from serious injuries.

"He just remembers getting on his bike and riding his bike across and that was it."

Around 7:15 Tuesday night, the 12-year-old was hit by a car while riding his bike near 45th Avenue and Olive in Glendale. Friends say he was in the crosswalk. The driver of the car that hit him did not stop.

"There were no brakes involved, he just got hit and he just took off."

The boy's friends were with him and saw what happened. They gave police the description of the car and the driver.

"They said they saw the car, it was four door silver, it was a guy who had blonde hair and he was on his phone, that's all they caught."

Frampton's aunt says the 12-year-old has head, stomach and leg injuries. Police say Frampton was not wearing a helmet.

"You would assume that a helmet would always help but in this situation I don't know."

While Frampton's family is focused on his recovery, they're concerned the driver hasn't been found.

"There's somebody still out there that did this and left and left him there not knowing if he was still alive or if anything was wrong," says Medina. "As a mother as an aunt as a friend as just anybody, I could never imagine somebody just doing that to another human being."

Frampton's condition is improving, his family told us.

According to police, witnesses told officers the driver was a white male, 20 to 30 years old. Police describe the vehicle as a silver 2010 Buick LaCrosse sedan.  Investigators believe it will have damage to the right front passenger side.
