Phoenix Police are announcing the arrest of an elusive thief who repeatedly shoplifted from valley Circle K stores.

Police say Jordan Newman is responsible for at least 35 thefts between November 2012 and June 2013. He allegedly shoplifted at least $2,900 in product, primarily candy bars.

He would later sell it to a "fence" for drugs or cash.

"What we've learned from the investigation is that he was trading that candy for drugs and small amounts of cash. And so were still left with a why, why would anyone fence if you will, candy bars. According to what we've heard in this investigation the people that are out there and they're buying these things you know, we have people that are going and stealing five or six packs of beer at a time are finding it more lucrative, They're making more money off of reselling these products than some of the drugs that they're selling," said Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes.

The arrest was made possible with help from Circle K Security. Newman was among nearly 70 accused repeat offenders targeted by officers.

This was all part of a crackdown called "Operation Beer Garden."
