Capitol mailroom receives items in protest of abortion law
The fallout from the abortion debate at the State Capitol continues to be felt.
Pro-Choice supporters have mailed several items to protest the passage of HB2. The items are being stored in a mail room located on the Capitol complex grounds. Staffers have received several boxes filled with coat hangers. Some packages started coming in shortly after the Governor signed the bill into law, while other items have been delivered as recently as Monday morning. Many of the hangers have written message on them directed to state lawmakers who supported the controversial bill as well as to Governor Perry.
Along with the wire hangers, several people have also mailed female personal hygiene products to the capitol. Some of those items had been used, according to mailroom employees. During the final debate of HB2, officials with DPS said they prevented several people from entering the Senate Chamber with jars of urine and feces.
