Bobcat Stadium should be rocking this season as Texas State joins the Sun Belt Conference. On July 25, a packed house luncheon took place in San Marcos to kick off the beginning of an exciting season.
The fan base stands firmly behind Head Coach Dennis Franchione as he heads into his third season. FOX 7 spoke one-on-one with Franchione, the man who's gone from Southland to WAC to Sunbelt since returning to San Marcos in 2011.
"Well, we've played three different leagues in three years and three different schedules in three years," Franchione said. "And it's nice to think we might be somewhere for a little while now and develop some rivalries and some traditions and things like that."
Franchione expressed his excitement for the next year.
"It's exciting going into this league. I have a lot of respect for the Sun Belt four bowl teams last year," Franchione said. "I think the Sun Belt is probably a well- balanced conference compared to the- the WAC was a little top-heavy last year."
In comparison to last year's season, Franchione described the season last year as "hopeful." This year, he describes the team as "hungry."
"Every team goes into a season with question marks. Because of our recruiting, because of our depth, we probably have a few more answers - or potential answers- to our question marks," Franchione said.
With over 30,000 Bobcat fans at the Texas Tech game last year, Fran and the Cats are set for a winning season, opening at Southern Mississippi.
