TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The fourth tropical storm of the season formed Wednesday morning.  Tropical Storm Dorian is far out in the eastern Atlantic, but will continue racing west in the next few days.

As of this afternoon's NHC update, the storm's winds had remained at 50 mph. Dorian was just west of the Cape Verde Islands and heading west at 20 mph.

The official NHC forecast has the storm remaining a tropical storm at least until next week.  Forecasters expect it to be northeast of Puerto Rico by Monday morning.

Dry air and cooler water will be the main threats to the system as it spins across the Atlantic.

"Late Thursday and Friday, Dorian moves through slightly cooler Atlantic waters. It will also encounter dry air from the Saharan Air Layer during this time frame which should weaken the tropical storm somewhat," FOX 13 meteorologist Lindsay Milbourne explained.  "The eastern Caribbean including the Lesser Antilles could see squalls and tropical storm force winds as early as Sunday."
