Sandy Baby Boom Happening In Parts Of New Jersey

Superstorm Sandy babies are popping up all over the New Jersey Coast.

"We think this is one of the biggest jumps that we'll see," says Doctor Robert Graebe.

As we approach nine months since the storm, Doctor Graebe at the Monmouth Medical Center in Longbranch says, compared to last July, the neonatal unit has seen around a 30 percent jump in the amount of births at the hospital.

"370 babies to 500" says Dr. Graebe. "This month..500 deliveries."

When sandy was approaching, Nick and Alissa Berse decided to leave their apartment near the shore and head inland to a hotel.

"We were watching a movie; the power went out...who knew what to do," says Alissa Berse.

We didn't think...it happened," says Nick Berse.

Less than 9 months later on July 10th baby Madison was born, weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces.

"She's a been a blessing to us," says Nick. "My priorities have changed so much. All I want to do is hang out with him."

Christopher and Robin McCann are also counting their blessings. They're proud parents of Sage Lawrence McCann, born earlier this month

"We didn't have power for two weeks, and now a baby," says Christopher McCann.

Psychologist Christine Tintorer says some fears like a major storm, a scary movie, or straight up boredom can sometimes bring on arousal.

"I make a joke about it ...definitely," says Christine Tintorer.
