PHOENIX (AP) - A $500,000 bond has been set for the suspect in the death of a 70-year-old homeless man, who was punched outside a Phoenix convenience store.

Joseph Nicholas Aguilera was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say a public defender is being appointed to represent the 30-year-old Aguilera.

A July 26 status conference is scheduled in his case with a July 30 preliminary hearing.

Phoenix police say Aguilera allegedly struck the man at a bus stop near the store July 12 for unknown reasons.

They say Aguilera fled the scene and was captured on surveillance video.

Police say Aguilera was arrested Friday after being identified with help from the public.

The homeless man died in a hospital July 14 and still hasn't been identified.
