CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A northwest Indiana man has been charged with murder for striking two men with his SUV, killing one and injuring another, during a gang-related fight early Sunday in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.

Wenceslao Arriaga, 25, of Hobart has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery, Chicago Police said.

Arriaga was driving the vehicle attempting to flee from the fight when the SUV hit two men at 3:20 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Central Park Avenue, police said.

Jose Ibarra, 20, was killed, and a 23-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital after they were struck, police said.

A 25-year-old man was also taken in stable condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after suffering a stab wound, police said.

Ibarra, of the 3500 block of West 58th Street, was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:27 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

A Monday autopsy showed he died from multiple injuries and compressional asphyxiation from being sturck and rolled over by an SUV, the medical examiner's office said. The death was ruled a homicide.

After his arrest, Arriaga was taken to a hospital for injuries suffered during the crash, police said. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
