Overturned 18-wheeler shuts down I-35

Posted: Updated:

A section of southbound Interstate 35 has been shut down because of an overturned 18-wheeler.

At around 2:40 a.m., a semi truck left the roadway and overturned in the area just south of Braker Lane and Rundberg. The truck was hauling about 30 thousand pounds of auto parts, most of which spilled out onto the road, bringing traffic to a halt in the two southbound lanes of traffic.

Authorities are using forklifts to clear the road of the pallets carrying the car parts, but say it is taking a long time because the pallets are on their side. They estimate it will take at least another 2 hours to finish unloading the overturned truck and move the pallets, at which point they will shut down the Interstate again to turn the truck upright.

Traffic is moving very slowly in the area. Authorities advise that commuters travel along an alternate route if heading through that area.

An investigation into why the truck left the roadway and overturned is ongoing.
