Check your stubs: Police warn of counterfeit tickets in Chicago

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

You say you bought tickets for the Pearl Jam concert at Wrigley Field for an unbelievable price online? Better check them closely.

With a handful of outdoor music festivals and big-name acts performing this summer, Chicago Police report several cases of counterfeit tickets being sold over the Internet.

Tickets are being offered for sale over social media and online classified sites. But after the victim has made the transaction, they discover the tickets are fake. Cases have included tickets to sporting events and major concerts scheduled for the upcoming weekend, according to police.

Police advise would-be ticket buyers to:

  • Only buy tickets from a reputable broker or from the venue itself;
  • Do not buy tickets off the street;
  • Be aware of who you are buying from, and verify identification;
  • Report suspicious activity immediately.

If anyone has information on these crimes, or may be a victim, contact the CPD Financial Crimes Unit at (312) 746-9661.
