A proposed homeless RV park in Eastern Travis County could be one step closer to reality Tuesday evening. The City of Austin Zoning and Platting Commission is expected to approve preliminary plans for the park. The proposed 27-acre RV park would be build along the property line of and Eastern Travis County subdivision off Hogg Eye Road and Decker Lane.
The RV park is a project of Mobile Loaves and Fishes which has helped the homeless find permanent housing, but this property would be the first of its kind in the Austin area. According to CEO Alan Graham, residents would include the disabled and chronically homeless. Plans for the park also include a community center, chapel and food pantry.
The property would back up to homes in the Woodland Hills neighborhood. Homeowners have spoken out against the RV park. Some have even put homes on the market.
