The chemical odor that prompted the evacuation of a building on the University of Texas campus has been cleared and occupants are being let back into the building.
Authorities evacuated Painter Hall at 123 E. 24th Street Tuesday morning after a chemical smell coming from the third floor of the building was reported. The Hazmat Task Force, Austin Fire Department and UT personnel responded to the scene to try to determine the cause of the odor.
Authorities traced it to a shortage in an electrical panel.
Austin fire crews cleared the area and allowed people to go back inside.
