HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A teenager was killed and four people were wounded when shots rang out at a central New Jersey home during a teenager's birthday party.

It's not yet clear what sparked the shooting, which occurred around 11 p.m. Friday in Hamilton Township.

Mercer County prosecutors say 17-year-old Shakir Williams of Trenton was shot to death, while a 17-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical but stable condition with wounds to the torso, arms, leg and groin.

Two other males - ages 17 and 18 - were shot in the legs, while the other victim was hit in the calf. All three were treated at a hospital and later released.

Authorities say dozens of people attended the party, which was being held for a 15-year-old. But further details on the shootings weren't disclosed.

The rip current risk remains high along the New Jersey and New York coastlines. Some beaches were open to the public but closed to swimmers. The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.
