CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The body of a teenage boy was found decomposed with a gunshot to the head Thursday morning behind an abandoned house in the West Englewood neighborhood.

The body was discovered about 11 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Damen Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was not releasing the teen's name Thursday evening, but an official said he was believed to be 17 years old.

His preliminary cause of death appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner's office.

An autopsy scheduled for Friday. Area South detectives are conducting a death investigation.
