Daulton Diagnosed With Brain Cancer, Radio Station Says

PHILADELPHIA -

Former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton has been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement from the radio station where he works.

Daulton has Glioblastoma ("GBM"), a form of brain cancer, according to 97.5-FM "The Fanatic," where he's a radio show host.

"Dutch" has returned to his home in the Clearwater area, where the Phillies hold spring training, to continue recuperating amongst his immediate family and friends.

The former all-star and leader on the 1993 pennant-winning Phillies, who went on to win a World Series with the Florida Marlins, will eventually begin treatments in Florida.

"Darren and his family wish to thank everyone for their loving support throughout this difficult time. He is deeply touched. In typical fashion, he again said, 'Right on; Fight on,'" the statement says, adding that Daulton and his family request that everyone respect their privacy at this time.

The statement when on to say that a Sept. 9 golf outing at LuLu Country Club, benefiting Daulton's foundation, will go on as planned.

The Darren Daulton Foundation supports the growth of youth sports programs and homelessness organizations. It's putting on the event with Marley's Mission, a non-profit organization that provides equine-based therapy free of charge to children, and their families, who have experienced trauma.
