Due to the ongoing drought the city of Austin is prohibiting smoking, open fires, and grilling in all city parks.
The burn ban applies to all city parks, greenbelts, and preserves. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department said the fire hazard conditions present in Central Texas spurred them to enact the ban.
Wood or charcoal BBQ grills are prohibited, but propane grills and stoves will still be allowed in designated picnic areas.
Police and park rangers will be enforcing the ban. Violations could result in a fine between $300 and $500.
