Scrappers target Detroit warehouse after pot plants removed

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Huge pot plants were pulled out of a warehouse on Epworth as part of a major marijuana raid on more than 20 locations.

With the plants gone, another business promptly set up shop. Dozens of scrapers with moving vans, shopping carts and pickup trucks arrived to cash in on what was left behind.

The scrapping started almost as soon as police left with all of the marijuana plants.

People who live and work nearby are concerned that the building is now wide open.

"What if somebody [goes] in there and [gets] hurt, and it's been wide open. They've been bringing everything out of there," Gary McCoy, who works in the neighborhood.

State police said they are responsible for securing the buildings after the raids and that they hired a company and did exactly that on Epworth.

However, that clearly didn't last long. Detroit police did drive past a couple of times, but didn't stop to halt the looting. Some said at least this might stop the dope growers from coming back.
