Protesters to continue battle over abortion bill

Posted: Updated:

Security was on high alert Monday night as both sides of the abortion legislation gathered to rally on the south side of the Capitol.

National and Texas Pro-Life leaders lead a Stand for Life Rally. Hundreds of activists wore blue, held sign and prayed on the Capitol steps. Some of the speakers included Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and the Duggar Family, from the TV show "19 Kids and Counting."

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, of the TV show "19 Kids and Counting," said, "It's a real life or death situation and we are just really trusting and praying that the representatives and senators will vote for...So we encourage people to call their state representatives and senators and tell them to vote for HB 2."

Chants could be heard coming from the anti-abortion bill march meeting at the south gate of the Capitol.

A trail of orange is all you could see making its way down Congress Avenue toward City Hall.

More than 2,900 people RSVP'd for the event.

De Lewellen, a Pro-Choice Supporter, said, "Abortion should be done only when necessary, I'm in agreement with that, but I think we should have pro-choice. I just wonder how many unwanted children they would be willing to adopt into their own family."

If House Bill 2 passes, Texas would become the 35th state to ban abortions after five months.
