Two people were arrested after they were caught allegedly letting a house cat into the wild near Lake Saguaro.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies were on patrol when they say Matthew Williams and Virginia Bean stopped their car, took a cat out and let it go into the desert.

Deputies talked to Williams and Bean and they allegedly admitted they didn't want to keep the cat anymore and figured they'd let it loose into the desert.

Both suspects were arrested for animal abuse and neglect. They're also facing drug paraphernalia charges after items were found in their car during the arrest.
