The NYPD announced Saturday the following street closures and possible traffic delays for the weekend of July 6 & 7, 2013.

Drivers should expect delays in the following areas:

    A special New York Police Department unit that sparked controversy by tracking the daily lives of Muslims in an effort to detect terror threats has been disbanded, police officials said Tuesday. NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis confirmed that detectives assigned to the unit had been transferred to other duties within the department's Intelligence Division.

    Thousands of police officers lined Beach 84th Street in Rockaway Beach, Queens, to say a final goodbye to one of their own and salute his heroism and sacrifice. Police Officer Dennis Guerra, 38, died from smoke inhalation after rushing to a fire in Coney Island high rise on April 6. Deputy Inspector Carlos Valdez, Guerra's commanding officer, said the 8-year veteran will be remembered for his dedication to helping others.
