Summer time in Texas makes you think of three things; the river, your friends and quenching your thirst.
If you plan on floating the Guadalupe or Comal Rivers, inside the city limits of New Braunfels though, you can't bring any disposable containers. That means no cans and no plastic cups.
"It was, it was pretty significant," said Shane Wolf, the general manager for Rockin' R River Rides. "It's a little confusing to say the least, even for the locals, on what you can and can't take."
It's been over a year since the city of New Braunfels put what's now known as the "can-ban" into effect.
Wolf said, "We take 300 phone calls a day, literally, and half of it is about what can we do? You can still do everything you did, let's just pour it in something you'd reuse and keep on going."
That's why they sell these chug-a-mugs now, to try and make up for the lost business.
"It's been a hit to say the least and now, we're just working on the education aspect of it," Wolf said.
On Friday One group came all the way from Oklahoma.
"First time down here," said Bryan Windle.
They did some research before arriving. Bryan added, "I believe Bing is better than Google, so we Binged it."
However, they didn't know about the can ban.
"We brought these," said Katie Owens, another tourist.
Katie and her friends from Fort Worth learned the hard way.
"The last time we were here, we weren't allowed to bring any of our drinks and it was not a good experience," Katie added.
New Braunfels Police say there's less confusion this year and they're writing more parking and littering tickets than can citations.
Wolf said, "You just gotta put it back in a non-disposable container, something you'd continue to use and wash in the kitchen sink."
As long as you do that, you can still enjoy your favorite beverage while floating in your tube.
"Its gonna be an epic time...epic time," said Katie.
All kinds of disposable containers are banned within the New Braunfels city limits. This goes for food too, so if you plan on taking snacks to the river, make sure to pack them in a Tupperware container.
