Dbacks honor fallen firefighters at game

Posted: Updated:

The Diamondbacks paid tribute to the Yarnell firefighters before a sellout crowd Friday night.

The players wore special jerseys with a patch honoring the Granite Mountain Hotshot crew members, who were killed last Sunday while battling the Yarnell Hill wildfire. Players from both teams wore "Prescott Fire Dept." baseball caps during batting practice.

The number 19 is painted behind home plate at Chase Field.

Friday night's game began with a moment of silence, a photo tribute, and a performance of "Amazing Grace" by the Arizona Fire Service Bagpipe and Drum Band.

Meanwhile, the Dbacks will match, up to $100,000, donations from the public made here: mlb.mlb.com/ari/community/19.jsp. The Diamondbacks have already matched $100,000 in fans' donations.

Proceeds from the weekend's 50-50 raffle also go to charities aiding those affected by the fire and the deaths.

The Associated Press contributed.
