PHOENIX -

Police say he was only trying to stop a fight, but a Phoenix man is now fighting for his life after one of the people in that fight ran him over.

"It was ruthless."

Katherine Beyers watched as her friend was hit and then run over by a truck in the parking lot of O'Brien's Pub near 35th Avenue and Northern.

Police say the driver was intentionally trying to hurt someone after a fight.

"My friend wasn't involved at all, he was just breaking up the fight," said Beyers.

The fight started inside the bar.

Take a look at the surveillance pictures of the two people involved.  After things got heated, they were ordered to leave, but the argument continued in the parking lot where others tried to calm the situation.

"We broke the fight up.. the guys drove away..everyone thought the fight was over," said Beyers.  "The next thing I heard was a gas pedal and all I see was a truck coming with the headlights off."

Her friend was in the driver's path.

"He was hit head-on.. the truck went straight over them.. didn't stop," she said.

The 25-year-old victim survived, but remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police are hoping someone recognizes the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic male, possibly named Adrian, 5' 5" tall, 180 - 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect vehicle is described as a gray, extended cab Ford or similar style pickup truck.

"They are out celebrating the 4th of July.. my friend is laying in a hospital, fighting for his life," said Beyers.  "We just want these people caught.  If anyone knows anything, please come forward."
