DETROIT (WJBK) -

Sources shared some interesting information with Fox 2 on Tuesday. They told us that two FBI agents with a search warrant in tow paid a visit to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. Their destination was the Detroit Building, Safety and Engineering Department.

The state warrant was executed by the feds, which could mean it is a collaboration, a joint task force out to fight corruption.

The warrant lists no names, only nine properties that crisscross Detroit, including a towing and transportation yard on Freeland, Gerry's Garage and Auto Detailing on Mack, E&B Brewery Lofts near Eastern Market and a lot where a house used to stand and now only debris from it remain on Mettetal.

What do all these properties have in common, what do they have to do with the Building Department and exactly what are the feds fishing for? We went looking for answers.

The spokesperson with the Emergency Manager's Office said they have not had any prior contact with law enforcement agencies, but they are now aware of the search warrant pertaining to those properties. However, they don't know why the search was conducted.

The mayor's office basically echoed that statement, only adding that they are fully cooperating with the feds' investigation, and the agents did obtain some information in that search.

What we are hearing from some folks affiliated with those on the fourth floor is that this federal probe could point to inspectors on the take, meaning taking kickbacks and demolition and neighborhood stableazation money, which are federal funds. Was it being mismanaged? We may soon find out.

The FBI is not confirming anything any sources have said. The spokesperson would only say that this is an ongoing investigation.
