Monday the Texas Civil Rights Project spoke out about an initiative to make sure the Voting Rights Act continues for Texans.
Last week the Supreme Court voted to strike down section 4 of the act which helps protect potential voters from restrictions that would keep them from the polls.
Signed into law by President Johnson in 1965 the act helped minority Americans vote without facing discrimination.
At Monday's press conference President Johnson's daughter Luci Baines Johnson said Congress should take action.
"It is my hope and my further dream that Congress will look at where we are and recognize that they have the capacity to make a difference to come back and ensure by legal action," Johnson said.
The Civil Rights Project adds that Congress can do more and decide to enact another basis of protection for minority voters.
