Search Called Off For Boy Who Went Over Falls

PHILADELPHIA -

Two brothers went swimming in Pennypack Creek today, jumping off a popular bridge as lots of kids do around the area, but only one brother will make it home tonight.

It happened just before 2 p.m. 11 and 13 year old brothers were jumping off a bridge and swimming in Pennypack Creek. The Fire Department says the boys went over the falls. One brother came up and the other didn't. Some joggers called 911 and ran for help. Philadelphia Fire Department Search and Rescue said combing the scene was difficult because it's about a mile into the woods. The rescue efforts stopped after two hours of searching.

"The current was very swift; our rescuers had a tough time coming upstream against the current," said a spokesman.

The 11 year old boy who made it out alive was taken to Torresdale hospital.
