Pedestrian hit on South Mopac

Posted: Updated:

Pedestrians dying on freeways is still a problem in Austin.
Austin police say a driver hit a man in the 4400 block of South Mopac, between Loop 360 and State Highway 71, around six o'clock Sunday morning
Police say the pedestrian crashed through the windshield and ended up in the passenger seat of the car.
They don't know if the man was trying to cross the freeway.
The pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver stopped and called 911.
"As always we remind citizens to stay safe and to cross roads at designated points to prevent collisions," says APD Senior Patrol Officer, Nettie Gonzalez.
Police say it doesn't appear alcohol was a factor in this fatality.
Last year, 28 pedestrians died in traffic related collisions in Austin.
