Ready to say I do, but want something more intimate and affordable than a big wedding extravaganza. David McKnight of Emerald City Designs explains how to turn your backyard into the perfect backdrop for exchanging your vows.

We asked him what couples should keep in mind as they put together a backyard wedding?

"One thing is your guest list," he said. "If you're wanting something intimate, make sure it's the folks that are going to stay with you throughout the many years to come."

"Also what types of food," he continued. "Do you want to do a buffet or do you want to do a small, intimate, sit-down dinner?"

You may want to think about catering at least a few items on your menu. McKnight also said table and chair rentals are a must.

"The other idea about the outdoor experience is you want to think about tenting or canopies ... because you don't know what's going to happen with Mother Nature," McKnight explained.

When it comes to saving money, instead of hiring a florist, you might consider buying loose flowers and then putting your centerpieces together yourself.

"Peonies, hydrangeas, they're all in bloom later part of June into July," McKnight said.

He suggested buying the flowers at a farmer's market a day or two before the wedding.

Finally, McKnight said candles make everything look better.

"Whether it's day, afternoon or evening, the idea of the texture of the candles is very nice," he remarked.

In the video, David McKnight also discusses table coverings, chair tiebacks and other decorations.
