Man Shot Dead Walking To Work In City's Fairhill Section

PHILADELPHIA -

A 46-year-old man was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in the Fairhill section of the city.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. on the 2800 block of Lawrence Street as the man walked to work.

"Based on ballistic evidence, we know that at least eight shots were fired from close range from a semi-automatic handgun," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "The ballistic evidence is very close to where the body collapsed on the sidewalk. At this time we're not sure of the motive."

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, lived nearby but not on this block.

His girlfriend told police he that he was construction worker and walked the same route to work every day, FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney reported from the scene.

Police say they are currently questioning witnesses, and there is no motive at this time, but they believe he was the intended target.

Investigators are also on the scene right now looking for private surveillance cameras that could lead them to the shooter.

Timmeney has more details in this video report from the scene, including an interview with a resident who found the victim outside her door, and another who heard the gunshots.
