Chester County, Pop Up Storm Downs Trees And Power Lines

Posted: Updated:

In Chester County, there was damage caused by severe storms as they ripped through the area this afternoon.

It did not take long but it did quite a bit of damage. A pop up storm that came roaring through Chester County, forcing crews to shut down roads, downing trees and power lines.

"I was sitting on the tailgate of my pick up and I told my grandson…'get ready, about five minutes, something's going to happen,'" said Phil Saienni, a resident.

And happen it did.

A rush of heavy wind and rain battered the normally quiet community of London Grove Township, throwing several large trees down on Chatham Road.

"The hail was only about five minutes but once that wind kicked up it just started twisting trees left and right," described Saienni.

It even brought a few utility lines closer down to earth…

"If this was real high tension wire we'd be looking at smoke and fire, all kinds of stuff…kind of a blessing."

The damage made the road impassable by vehicle, but there were some that managed to make their way through.

The storm knocked power out to hundreds of Peco customers in Chester County, and woke up Matt Diamondstone from a good sleep following a weekend camping trip.

"I came to my upstairs window and I saw trees falling…it was pretty impressive," described Matt. "They were falling parallel to the road so I wasn't that worried but…I wasn't going outside."

He's glad the trees stayed away from his apartment. Meanwhile, his neighbor Bob Kriner has to worry about this wire that came down in his driveway.

Bob Kriner saw this wire come down on to his drive way. He thinks it's for his cable system.

"It just came through really quick with some real heavy winds."

He is thankful to have been spared from his big worry every time the weather gets wild.

"There's old trees, large trees and if they came down they could go towards the house."

Now the tough part is getting all the utilities back on.
