Two people were killed Sunday night after an apparent domestic dispute in a Round Rock neighborhood.
Police were called out to the 1900 block of Nicole Circle just after 5 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Round Rock Police Chief Tim Ryle says when they got the call about 5:20 they immediately sent half a dozen officers. Two officers arrived almost immediately and found a woman shot to death in the front yard.
Witnesses say the woman's ex-boyfriend had just shown up prompting her to quickly put some kids that were there into the house. That's when witnesses say the ex-boyfriend shot her in the face. When the 2 officers arrived, the ex-boyfriend pulled a gun on them. They told him to put the gun down, but ultimately both officers had to shoot.
"Very tragic, you know officers prepare to protect people's lives all the time you know, still when it happens it becomes a pretty traumatic event for everybody involved. But thankfully there were no other injuries," said Chief Ryle.
He says it's protocol for the two officers who killed the suspect to be assigned to office duty during the investigation.
Neighbors say the woman who died did have a daughter but she wasn't there. The kids who saw the whole thing apparently belonged to her roommate. We spoke with their grandparents to see just how they plan to help them after seeing such a traumatic thing.
"We probably…something like that sensitive, we'll probably have to wait and see when they're ready to talk you know and just be as nurturing as we can and let them do the talking first and let them initiate what happened," said John and Ann Soliz who are related to the roommate.
Police Chief Ryle says the next step is to talk to everybody involved and try to find out what happened between these two that got it to this point.
