Driver dead after crashing into Yonkers firehouse

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A driver is dead after crashing his vehicle into a firehouse in Yonkers Sunday afternoon.

Yonkers officials say the driver was headed southbound on Central Avenue when he lost control and hit a pole before crashing into the firehouse around 2:40 p.m.

The driver was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car and no other injuries at the scene.

Central Park Avenue was closed in both directions during the investigation.

The report echoes an assessment conducted this year by the Federal Railroad Administration, which investigated after a string of Metro-North accidents including a December 2013 derailment that killed four riders in the Bronx.
