Section of Barton Creek Greenbelt closes after falling rock pose risks

Posted: Updated:

A section of Barton Creek Greenbelt trail, just south of the Spyglass trail entrance will be closed due to the danger of falling rock.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department says it will not hinder access to bicyclist or trail users as a detour has been created to accommodate passage.

APRD says in the past two weeks several large rocks have broken off the cliff face of the "New Wall" and have fallen onto the trail.

They are closing the section for the safety of park patrons. The "New Wall" will also be closed to climbing enthusiasts until further notice.
