Doctors Use Super Glue To Save Baby's Life

Posted: Updated:

Super glue can be used to fix a lot of things around the house,  but doctors at the University of Kansas Hospital" used it to fix a baby's brain.

The baby's name is Ashylyn.  She's just three weeks old and had a rare aneurysm that was causing bleeding in her brain.

At first, doctors weren't sure what to do, because they didn't have the tools to treat a newborn with this type of diagnosis.  There was nothing to treat it and nothing to remove it.
So, a quick-thinking doctor decided to close the aneurysm with surgical super glue.

The surgeon inserted a tiny catheter in the baby's hip and directed the super glue to her brain.

Doctors say the glue dried in seconds and sealed the leak.

Ashylyn is doing well and recovering at the hospital.  Her parents are expected to take her home next week.
