DETROIT (WJBK) -

Balaal Hollings has been on a roll, receiving the Spirit of Detroit Award from City Council on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday night it's the Congressional Black Caucus, and Wednesday he will be receiving more scholarship money from the Detroit Rotary Club.

Hollings is meeting Lions players and even threw out the first pitch at a recent Tigers' game.

"I thought it was loud when I walked at graduation, but when I threw a strike right down the middle, they went nuts," Hollings said.

However, even after becoming a media sensation, Hollings, who got shot in the head while breaking up a fight, is the first to say it hasn't changed him.

"Most people get a big head, like I'm famous, but it actually humbles me," he said.

The football career now complete is just one aspect of Hollings' love for Northwestern High School. He said looking at his diploma is bittersweet.

"Northwestern made me the man I am today. That's the school that taught me all my values about becoming a man," Hollings said.

He is staying in Detroit to stay connected. His next stop is Wayne State University.

Right now the baseball diamond at the old Tiger Stadium is being used by little leaguers and even some vintage baseball teams. But that could change, even before this season is over.
