Possible Tornado Damages Delaware Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. -

Several houses in New Castle County's Robscott Manor section are in ruins after a possible tornado ripped through and uprooted several trees.

A big one fell right on to Thomas Boyle's house just as they took cover.

According to Thomas Boyle, "My wife was sitting on the couch I told her to come down to the lower level. She said she'd come down. Thank God she did. As soon as she come down, the tree come right through."

"That car's wrecked," he added. "That car in the driveway is wreaked. Our garage is wreaked. Our house is all opened up."

At least a dozen homes have some kind of damage in a peaceful community that now looks like a disaster area with emergency crews and first responders assessing the mess.

"I get a taste of what the poor people in Oklahoma felt like."

Amber Sudler and her kids were at the store when a tree took out half of her house. She can't believe so much was lost.

"I'm in shock. I don't know what to do. We were supposed to go to Texas on Wednesday. Of course we're not going now."

Her dad, Wayne Abney, holds the family dog that was home at the time. He's thankful too.

According to Abney, "I'm just glad they went in there when it happened. Yeah it's a bad thing."

And it was an emotional reunion for Celeste Metcalfe and her dad. She came all the way up from Sussex County to make sure things were alright.

"I called my parents to see if they were ok and heard there was a tree on their house and tornado hit the neighborhood, I grew up here…they did say that they were fine."

Good news from New Castle County tonight, as authorities report that no injuries occurred.
