Monday's Meal: Jamaica Spiced Ahi Tuna

Dzintra Dzenis, from Plate by Dzintra, joined us in the Good Day kitchen with a Father's Day recipe that is sure to please and keep dads healthy.

Recipe: Jamaica Spiced Ahi Tuna Over Hoisin with Summer Salsa in Lemon Vinaigrette


  • 4 (6-8 oz.) portions fresh Ahi tuna loin
  • Jamaica Jerk seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon grape seed or light olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

Summer Salsa

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 2  small seedless cucumbers
  • 2 Asian mangoes
  • 1/2 cup snap peas (whole)
  • 1 avocado (firm)
  • ¼ cup corn

Lemon Vinaigrette

  • 3 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)


Ahi Tuna 

  1. Heat a non-stick pan with grape seed or light olive oil until it just begins to smoke. 
  2. Season one side of each tuna portion with Jamaica seasoning. 
  3. Place seasoned side down into the hot pan and allow it to sear for 15 seconds per side. 
  4. Remove tuna from the pan and set it aside.

Lemon Vinaigrette

  1. Whisk together lemon juice, oil, salt and pepper until uniform and completely emulsified. 
  2. Set aside.

Summer Salsa

  1. Dice peppers (seeds removed), cucumbers, mango, snap peas and avocado into uniform pieces.
  2. Gently toss in corn, vinaigrette and set aside.

Plating Suggestion

  1. On the center of your plate, drizzle hoisin sauce in a decorative pattern and spoon summer salsa over the hoisin.
  2. Slice tuna to desired thickness and arrange over the salsa. 
  3. Enjoy as a healthy and delicious appetizer or entrée!
