SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Thieves broke into a local gun shop and now more weapons are in the wrong hands. The crooks busted into the business using a truck as a battering ram.

"They're brazen, but I also think they're stupid," remarked owner Bill Kucyk.

Brazen, he says, because two men used a stolen truck (see photos to the right) much like a U-Haul to bust through a cinder block wall on the back side of the Action Impact's building in Southfield, and stupid, he says, because once inside they snatched 20 handguns, some that didn't even work, and random ammunition.

Kucyk didn't find out until 7:30 Wednesday morning when he pulled into work and saw the mess.

"I am angry. I think everybody in the community should be angry. This building is secure. It's probably one of the most secure firearm facilities in this country, and yet it was able to be penetrated with a stolen vehicle," Kucyk said.

His alarm wasn't working, but Kucyk's surveillance cameras caught the two thieves crashing through the security gate and then driving the truck into both walls six or seven times before breaking through. Wearing masks and hoodies, they were inside only two minutes, grabbed what they could off a wall and took off. The video is now in the hands of Southfield police and the ATF.

"I think we've been very good to the community. I think we've been a positive asset to this community. So we're kind of looking for a return. Anybody that's got information, please call Southfield Police Department or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Detroit. I think everybody in our community has an obligation to try and get these guns back," Kucyk said.

We're told there is about $200,000 worth of damage. Meanwhile, Kucyk plans to get the shop back open on Friday and then the gun range shortly afterwards.
