Town and Country Optimist Complex builds the Field of Dreams

Posted: Updated:

Town & Country Optimist Complex is a Field of Dreams. There are 36 fields covering the sprawling 96 acre complex in northwest Austin.

"We have great volunteers and great sports associations that run our programs, they have to start somewhere and town and country is as good a place as any," said Director of Town & Country Optimist, Dennis Bruton.

Even on a practice night, T and C, as it's known to the locals, is a place where dreams are being made and lives are being shaped.

"Parents still talk about it I was running to second base and I ran the outfield probably two minutes trying to catch me little did I know I was out at the time," UT right fielder.

Ally Kelly Davidson went to division one basketball at Ole Miss and Texas State before winning TV's American Gladiator competition as memorable as her introduction to team sports at T and C.

"My mom actually took me to tryout my very first sports team out here and town and country she brought me in a dress and jellies," Davidson said.

A who's who of Town & Country Optimist also includes the Tampa Rays Kelly Johnson, Arizona's Brent Clevelan and the NFL's Marcus Wilkins all of whom owe some of their success to this volunteer based organization, largest of its kind in Texas.

Registration is already underway for football. Registration for other fall sports begins in July.  For more information or to register visit tandcsports.org.
