The Austin Police Department has arrested 7 people and seized over $1 million, pounds of illegal drugs, and firearms in two major drug busts over the course of the last month.
On April 23, investigators arrested Sergio Guzman, 35, and charged him with possession with the intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Investigators say that they received information that members of the Mexican Mafia and Tango Blast gangs were receiving drugs from the Zeta Cartel. As a result of that investigation, Guzman was arrested at a home in East Austin. Police also seized $1,050,000, 13 kilograms of cocaine, one assault rifle, and three handguns.
As a result of the investigation, Austin Police also arrested 33-year-old Joe Hernandez and 35-year-old Michael Vallejo.
Later, on May 1, Austin Police conducted another drug bust that netted four additional arrests. Mario Almazan, 37, Reyna Alejo, 38, Raul Vallejo-Martinez, 31, and Luis Pocasangre-Cardoza, 34, were arrested in charged with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Investigators said they received information that Pocasangre-Cardoza was going to make a deal between a buyer and distributor to obtain a large quantity of methamphetamine. Police obtained search warrants for several of the suspects' homes and confiscated 20.3 pounds of methamphetamine, 8.48 ounces of cocaine, and $28,836 at one residence and three hand guns, a Tech pistol, and an inert grenade at another residence.
