Tornado Survivors Dig Through Debris For Special Items

Posted: Updated:

In the aftermath of the tornado that devastated Moore, Oklahoma on Monday, residents are starting to sort through their belongings that were scattered about as a result.

For some, the daily goal is to keep from falling apart emotionally.

It's been three days since the massive twister touched down and, as many reunite for the first time since it happened, they appreciate the fact they're still here

They're also offering their hope and help to everyone they know.

As volunteers arrive to help victims recover, many focus on digging through mounds of debris they once called home, hoping to find those items which held a special place in their hearts.

Those who lost loved ones are trying to stay strong for the friends and family still here.

Early damage estimates have reached two billion dollars and as many as thirteen thousand homes damaged, affecting more than 30,000 people.

The number of those left homeless is still unknown because many of those displaced are believed to be staying with relatives.

Around 13,000 homes have been destroyed, and 24 lives were lost in the twister.

FOX's Craig Boswell was live in Moore on Thursday morning with more details.
