Sources: UPenn Lecturer Accused Of Indecent Exposure, Lewd Acts

PHILADELPHIA -

Police sources say the two incidents now under investigation took place at Houston Hall, a student center and lecture hall, on Spruce Street in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania campus.

One occurred in late April, the other in early May. One incident involved indecent exposure. The other a lewd act. Students on campus for summer classes were shaking their heads.

"You definitely don't expect it. You expect the school to do like a background check and make sure he doesn't have a history of that," one student told FOX 29.

"What really shocks me is that this one involves a faculty member, so, yeah, very surprising," another student added.

According to police sources, the incidents involved a lecturer from the university's Department of Anthropology and while he is not on staff here at Penn, he did teach classes. He also moderated an international seminar recently.

Investigators tell FOX 29 that, in one incident, the lecturer exposed himself briefly to two students . The lewd act was also reported during the university's own investigation. Once detectives here identified the lecturer, Philadelphia's Special Victim's Unit was notified.

"You don't want to go to class and have some guy exposing himself, so that's kind of disturbing, a student said.

Campus sources also tell FOX 29 that once the lecturer was positively identified, he was told to leave campus and prohibited from having contact with students, faculty and other university employees.

"I actually hadn't heard about this before talking to you, so I guess either they're keeping it under wraps or they're not doing a very good job of making it known," one student said.

Sources say an affidavit is being prepared for charges. There is no warrant and no arrest at this time. Both the Special Victims Unit and the University of Pennsylvania Police refused to comment citing the ongoing investigation.
