Man charged in South Austin carjacking

Posted: Updated:

Austin Police have charged a man after they say he and a juvenile suspect carjacked a woman in south Austin.

Police say on May 16, a woman was washing her White Infiniti G37 Sport Coupe in a car wash bay in the 6700 block of South Congress Ave when she was approached by two men.

Police say 18-year-old David Eduardo Martinez, armed with a gun and a juvenile suspect, armed with a drill, surrounded the victim and demanded the keys to her vehicle.

The victim told them that the keys were in the car and tried to grab her cell phone from inside the car. Martinez told the victim, "If you don't give me the phone, I will shoot you." He took the phone from her hand and they sped off through the parking lot.

Police later located the vehicle at a residence in the 4700 block of Teri Road. Police say Martinez and the juvenile had stopped to meet an acquaintance, when officers approached the vehicle. Martinez and the juvenile were detained.

Officers located two air-soft pistols in the vehicle.

Martinez has been charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle.
