For a year now, Austin police have been trying to clean up one of the most crime-ridden neighborhoods in the city, Rundberg Lane.
officers are once again returning the neighborhood to continue a 100% enforcement initiative.
The enforcement initiative will focus on Rundberg Lane from Middle Fiskville Road to Lamar Boulevard.
This includes the service road South of Rundberg Lane along Interstate 35 to Powell Lane across to Lamar Blvd. and will encompass Sam Rayburn Drive.
APD got a $1-million grant from the Department of Justice to crack down on crime.
Officers say they are working with residents and listening to their concerns.
Officer Tabor White says, "one of the big complaints that I receive from the neighbors here in the community is that they're always concerned about shady characters that are walking along. You know these guys that are kind of sticking to the shadows and you know looking a little bit shady. So what we're able to do with this is we get a few extra units on the street and we can find out what they're doing and why they're there."
Additionally, APD will be conducting traffic enforcement in an effort to decrease crashes and speeding along the heavily traveled intersection of Rundberg Lane and Interstate 35.
