A man was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff at a northeast Austin apartment complex Friday morning.
Police say 26-year-old Mark Guard will be charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police were called to the capitol village apartments around 3:30 a.m. this morning for a disturbance between two neighbors.
When officers arrived, Guard allegedly pointed a gun from his balcony at the officers. Police say Officer Robert Barger fired a round at guard.
No officers were injured, and neither was the suspect. That's when they brought out the SWAT team.
SWAT team members tried to communicate with guard through a loud speaker, saying come out with your hands up, we want to help you.
Some residents were told to evacuate, others to stay inside.
Highway 290 was shut down in both directions since the complex is right off the access road.
Police Chief Art Acevedo says people need to comply when officers are giving orders.
Officer Barger is on paid administrative leave. There will be a criminal and internal investigation into his actions.
