TEMPE, Ariz. -

Thousands of pounds of catfish made quite the splash at Kiwanis Park Thursday.

Two big trucks from Arkansas, carrying 7,000 pounds of catfish, rolled into Tempe today. It was a big time catfish dumping event.

It's part of a program that's been dumping fish into valley water since September -- helping to stock valley lakes with fresh fish ready to be caught.

"We're always putting some type of fish in here. We do catfish in the spring and fall and trout during the winter months and so right now we're in the middle of our catfish season," says Joanne Hill, AZ Game & Fish Dept.

"And they're fresh off the farm so they don't even know what a hook is yet so now is definitely the time to go fishing for these guys."

You need a fishing license to fish in city lakes.
