Clinton Shepherd attempts to set world record for longest Ferris Wheel ride

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Clinton Shepherd is trying to set a new world record for the longest time riding a Ferris Wheel.

The Pier Park Operations Manager was stationed at Navy Pier Thursday morning, preparing for this weekend's marathon event.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest Ferris Wheel ride is held in Edmonton, Canada, at 30 hours and 35 seconds. Shepherd wants to go for 48 hours – straight.

Shepherd plans to begin his world record attempt at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, at the home of the first Ferris wheel, built by George Washington Ferris. He is a South Side native, and wants to bring the title back home.

The operations manager gets a five minute break every hour to use the bathroom and stretch if he needs it. But he is not allowed to sleep at all!

Shepherd partnered with United Service Organizations to make sure donations from his record attempt go to those in need.

During normal operating hours, the price to ride the Ferris Wheel stands at regular ticket price: $6. But if guests want to ride the wheel after it would typically close during his record attempt, the price is a $3 donation.

For a very special world record experience, ride with Clinton for a $25 donation!
