DETROIT (WJBK) -

Thursday was the day 54-year-old Almeter Walls had been waiting for. She was going to get a healthy kidney.

"She was going to dialysis once a week," said Tabitha Barton. "I had just seen my auntie last week. She was scared to get the surgery, but she was going to go ahead and get it done."

Walls doesn't need the kidney anymore. She is dead, murdered in front of her home. It happened Wednesday evening on Detroit's west side. Family members said a ten-year-old told his family that Walls had cursed at him. A group of women and two men walked back down the street and an argument began. Then the two men opened fire.

Five people were short, including Walls 24-year-old daughter, Fairline, her boyfriend, Arturo Franklin, and two of her nieces, one of them just 15 years old.

Barton was on her way to the house when it happened.

"They shot my auntie. They shot three of my cousins," she said.

Walls' daughter, nieces and the boyfriend survived, but she wasn't so lucky.

Detroit police are hoping that they can solve this crime, but they need people to speak up. Anyone with any tips are asked to call them.
